RTFP is making it easier and quicker for businesses to trade between countries in southern and eastern Africa so that the economies of the region become more competitive and people benefit through job creation and increased wealth.

RTFP came to an end on 31st October 2009 having achieved significant successes. A follow-on programme to be called TradeMark Southern Africa will begin shortly and will continue RTFP's good work.

Over 70 representatives of South African and Zimbabwe Ministries; border agencies; freight forwarders; road transporters etc met at Beit Bridge on 22nd May to consider ways in which the Border could be improved. One immediate result has been the re-opening of the old bridge as a second crossing over the river.

Following a joint inspection of the Chirundu border between Zambia and Zimbabwe on 29 May by Ministers of both countries, 1st September 2009 has been agreed as the date of the opening of the first functioning One Stop Border Post in southern Africa.

The high level summit of African government presidents and officials, multilateral organisations and international partner as well as business meeting in Lusaka on April 6 and 7 has established a Project Steering Committee to set and manage policy for the North South Corridor AId for Trade programme.

All except 2 of the Caribbean Forum of ACP States signed an Economic Partnership Agreement on 15.10.08. Guyana subsequently signed on 20.10.08 whilst Haiti remains pre-occupied with internal stabilisation.
